The Nature of Disenchantment

Many people understandably want to know whether Disenchantment is set in the past, another world, or one similar to ours, and whether it can crossover with The Simpsons and Futurama in any way.

The answer is actually surprisingly simple: it is all of the above, and therefore the chances of it crossing over are slim to none. The reason for this is that it is set in a parodical past (parody of medieval Europe/Britain) and so in that sense it is a world similar to ours, but it is also a world imbued with magic and fantasy elements, and so it is a very different type of world entirely.

In the language of tropes, Disenchantment is a FANTASY KITCHEN SINK [ https://allthetropes.org/wiki/Fantasy_Kitchen_Sink. ] What this means is that it incorporates as many myths, fairytales and mythical creatures as it can. This combination of disparate elements leads to confusion (of the audience) but also the characters. This is lampshaded by an unnamed character who, in a clever piece of writing, complains about the confusion which results from living in a fantasy world:

From ep 4:

Home owner: Hey! You can't park on my lawn!

Viking: My flaming arrow says I can.

Home owner: You've got a talking flaming arrow?

Viking: What? No, it's just a regular arrow.

Viking: He says it's ok to park here.

Perhaps such worlds allow for crossovers with other types of worlds (through dimensional portals and such) but it would be up to the discretion of the writers to determine this - to set out more clear rules - and is so far not guaranteed.

NB: if the wording used here is similar here to the linked website that is because I wrote the article on allthetropes.

I believe Elfo is part human or maybe mermaid because in the 9th episode Papa Elfo says that the attraction for big people runs in their family. Therefore, He is either part Mermaid or human.

Crossover with Simpsons and Futurama?

This is early to be discussing this, but it's not far-fetched to suggest that eventually a crossover between the three shows will show up. But how could the three franchises come together? Simpsons and Futurama already did a crossover where it's revealed that Futurama is set in the Simpsons world, but in the future. Is Disenchantment set in the past? Or in another world?

Elfo's other half-easter egg: The picture won't load, I'm re-watching disnchantment. I found this.

In Episode 9 17:23, Elfo is handed a pamflet of his dad, him, and his mom. But at this time we see it sewn into the paper. This was clearly and easter egg. Comment and say what you think he is for others. I just needed to say this. Have a nice time, thinkers. Also, on the last episode. After the credits, People drag him In... He is alive. Thinkers and thoughters..

Season 2 predictions

On this thread, I'm going to list everything I predict will happen in season 2. Before we begin, I would just like to note that I'm not much of a comedy writer, so I'm not very good at thinking of jokes or comedic scenarios for these. Feel free to suggest comedy to go with these as well.

From Season 2 and onward, the series becomes a dramedy. Don't worry, all the Matt Groaning comedy you'd expect from him will still be here, but after everything that's happened in the last 2 episodes, the tone of the show has been permantly changed. So from then on, in addition to comedy, there will also be moments where the comedy stops and the show needs to be dramatic, serious, warhearted, sad, and maybe frightening.

Cloyd is Dagmar's father, and is the one who captured or arranged to have Luci captured. When Luci arrived, we learned that he was sent by Emperor Cloyd and his Enchantress to turn Bean evil, but we don't know why. I suspect it has something to do with her unknown magic powers. Dagmar also seemed to know what Bean's future held. So it might make sense if the two are in cahoots, or worse related to eachother. Cloyd however did not forsee that Bean would use the Elixir to ressurect her mother, but nontheless he is pleased by it, and we learn that he was the one who sent the ship that rescued Bean and Dagmar.

As for Luci, he also ordered Luci to be captured as well... as he has failed.

Luci fully defects to Bean's side. We learn that Cloyd is quite displeased with how Luci has failed in his goal, and tell him that he will be sent back to Hell... permanently. It's also here where we learn Luci's backstory. He was one of the lowest ranking demons of Hell, usually serving as a waiter for more powerful demons, or serving as a training dummy for Hell's army. When Cloyd made his pact with Hell, he accidentally summoned Luci due to a misreading of the demon texts. Luci however accepted the job because he believed it could allow him to become a more powerful demon. However, as cliche as this is(and perhaps the show can even lampshade it) Luci grew to attached to Bean and now considers her a friend. So he decides to tell Cloyd and Hell to "suck it". He's helping Bean. However, he still has jerkish, anti-heroic qualities.

Elfo is not fully resurrected. Killing off Elfo was a surprising decision I did not see coming, and like most people, I doubt we've seen the last of him. That being said, I don't think he's going to be fully resurrected, at least not yet. His death needs to advance his character more regardless if he stays dead or not. And I have 2 ideas for how this could be done. 1. Elfo returns as Bean's Guardian Angel or as some sort of Spirit Guide. 2. He returns as a zombie. Weather or not he stays that way or is is fully ressurected is left to the writers. However, if you think he should be fully resurrected in season 2, explain on how that could advance the plot please.

Bean learns that Dagmar and Cloyd want her power to free a dark God of Evil from Hell. If Luci is a demon, that means there are dark forces at work in this world, so what if the highest authority in that party is introduced. I doubt this god will be present immediately and should be saved for the series finale. That being said, we learn that through a parody of the Chosen One trope, this God needs to devour Beans power and soul because she is also the only one who can defeat him once and for all.

Zog and Derek embark on a quest to find Bean, Oona and restore Dreamland. Since Zog and Derek were the only survivors of Dreamland, this makes it logical for them to find ways to reverse it. In this quest, Zog makes some much needed, and comedic character development to help him become a better person. Derek gets some more development as well, and is also looking for Oona.

Bean, Elfo and Luci escape from Cloyd and Dagmar and set off on a quest to find out about her destiny, find a way to ressurect Elfo, and save Dreamland. You didn't think I'd ignore the arc of our leading characters did you? While comedic misadventures still happen, the stakes are higher and all three go through character development. However, I dunno how this development should go. All the ideas I'd create would weaken the comedy that would be bad for a dramedy since both comedy and drama must be kept in equilibrium.

Episode Plotlines

Hey! I'm Bast, the person that added Episode 1 and (half of) 2's plotlines. I've come to say that I'd appreciate it if the plots were completed without me- The computer I was using recently lost its Wi-Fi and my phone doesn't work for editing. Sorry for any inconvenience!

Hey! How can New people like myself help out?

Hello! Not that new to Wikia, I’ve had an account for clash of clans and have done editing and stuff there but it’s also been a while. I know a lot about web development too, so I shouldn’t be too confused myself.

*Anyways...* to business. How should us as new people help out? Is there any sort of chat or system that is used between contributors? Any way you want to tag? Any specific job that anyone should have?

Let me know personally what I could help with. I’ve a decent knowledge on web development and I’ve seen the first season multiple times, so nothing to me is a spoiler.

Scroll box template

Does anyone fancy making a scroll template for use in the "plot" sections? The plot seems to take up most of the page and it would be more elegant to make it scroll. Cheers.

King Zo/ø/ög?

I've gathered you here for an important discussion: How is King Zog's name spelt? In the Netflix subtitles, it's spelt Zog. On his Wikia page, it's Zøg. I've seen it spelt Zög.
What do you guys think?

Convention regarding cultural references

Hi everyone - I would like to suggest that we start a convention whereby the references section is divided into the heading "Cultural References" and the sub-heading "The Simpsons / Futurama". Why you may ask?

I appreciate people are eager to find simpsons/futurama refs, but it is also true that references to shows/ films/ stories outside of Groening's universe are contained within the show. It ought to be recognised as a stand alone show - not derivative or a spin-off - and should be treated with the respect it deserves in it's own right.

The above suggestion maintains Disenchantment's integrity as a show, whilst also acknowledging continuities with simpsons/ futurama.

Please look at episode one for an example of what I have done. If people are happy with this format I recommend we adhere to this as it will keep the episode pages nice and neat.

Thanks for reading, please message me for further suggestions.

Suggestion about disabling article comments

People usually use comments for commenting things like "nice", "I like this character", "Do it", etc. Enabling article comments feature disables talk pages. We can discuss about wrong templates, wrong information etc. in the talk pages. Leading wikis like Wookiepedia, LyricWiki, Elder Scrolls Wikia, Marvel Database etc. has disabled the article comments feature.
