Mermaids are an aquatic sapient species whose members live on Mermaid Island. They have bodies resembling those of attractive Human women, but with fish-like tails instead of legs.
According to folklore, mermaids are dangerous sirens that sing hauntingly beautiful songs which hypnotize weak-willed men, luring them to their deaths. As such, sailors are advised to cover their ears when passing around Mermaid Island. However, it was soon discovered that the source of the siren-like songs were actually coming from the walruses of nearby Walrus Island.
After Elfo's death and funeral, his corpse was sent floating in the ocean, eventually washing ashore on a beach implied to be on Mermaid Island, as two feminine figures (likely mermaids) grabbed him.
In the final fight with Queen Dagmar, the Mermaids fought on the side of Bean.
